Expedition Three (ExThree) will be MERC's third Mars analog research mission and will take place at the Mars Desert Research Station (MDRS) in Utah. ExThree will build on the success of MERC's two previous research missions Expedition One (2003) to MDRS and Expedition Two (2004) to Arkaroola, Australia that featured studies involving the local Geology, Biology, Technology, Operations, Human Factors Research and Human-Crewed Rover Expeditions.

The Mars Expedition Research Council is taking proposals for research from invited scientists and engineers. The Expedition Three leaders have privately announced a call for proposals among select researchers and engineers for participation in Expedition Three. Current dates for the project are February 3 to 18 of 2007. Crew selection will be finalized by the first week of January 2007.
As proposals come in, we'll ask those on the MERC oversight commitee to help with the research review according to their expertise and the criteria below.
Research Proposals
Each research proposal will be assessed by the scientific committee and a general score will be attributed. Only the proposals that meet our criteria will be selected. In the future, once the expedition is complete, a summary paper of the complete science program will be published. Parts of your proposal submission will be used to create the summary paper, and you will get co-author credit. Therefore, proposals should be written to publication quality.

Proposal should include:
Merit Review
Proposals must be written to publication quality and adhere to the AAS format. Once the expedition is complete, a comprehensive summary paper of the expedition science program will be published. Parts of the proposal submission will be used to create the summary paper, and the authors of each propsal will receive co-author credit on the summary paper.
A multidisciplinary peer review panel will evaluate the scientific merit of each proposal. Only those proposals that meet our criteria will be selected.
