Mars Society Canada's June 20th, 2005 policy statement is currently being distributed to all levels of Canadian government. It calls for Canadian participation in ESA's ExoMars mission through increased support for the Canadian Space Agency.
An excerpt from the policy position is given here:
Canada is at a crossroads. Canada must decide in only a few short months if it will participate in a meaningful way in any of the current worldwide space exploration initiatives. Canada is one of only a few countries with an active space program that has not yet aligned its goals to contribute to the exploration of the Moon and Mars. As mentioned in recent weeks, Mars Society Canada and the Canadian Space Society launched an initiative to form a national space policy with the collective views of the various space advocacy groups in Canada. Our partnership is continuing to grow and now includes the Carleton Mechanical and Aerospace Society (CMAS) as well as the Fredericton Space Society (FSS) and the University of Toronto Astronomy and Space Exploration Society (ASX) . MSC and CSS welcomes these groups and the valuable input they will provide to this effort. We continue to urge other space interest groups to help define this national space policy position.

As there is some likelihood of another Canadian Federal election in the coming months, Mars Society Canada (MSC) and the Canadian Space Society (CSS) have begun an initiative to communicate the benefits of space exploration to the various Federal parties. At this stage, preliminary correspondence with background information in the form of white papers are in the process of being transmitted to the various parties. MSC and CSS have also begun communication with other space interest groups to solicit their interest in joining this effort and in the creation of a joint policy position representing the views of a broad range of Canada's space community.
The main thrust of these efforts is to increase support for Canadian space activities through an increase in funding for the Canadian Space Agency.

The recent federal budget has given the CSA an additional $111 million per year, all for satellite technology to monitor Canada's territory and environment.
