October 4, 2006TMS-SD's San Diego Mars Rover was featured on KUSI-TV's "Good Morning San Diego" at the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center for the premier of the IMAX Film, ROVING MARS. (NOTE: requires QuickTime Player, and is 14.6-MB in size).

February 2, 2006TMS-SD and our Mars Movie Night was the subject of a T.G.I.F. article on page 219 by sci-fi author John Brizzolara for the San Diego Reader.

September 9, 2005TMS-SD members recorded a special half-hour program for "Inside Southern California" for Adelphia Channel in North County (Carlsbad, CA). We will post it here as soon as we can get it compressed enough for the web.

August 3, 2005Several TMS-SD members Dave Rankin, Tim Sommer and Gerry Williams participated in taping several Headline News segments for Adelphia in San Diego's north county markets. These were run during local breaks on CNN and CNN Headline News throughout the day. (NOTE: requires QuickTime Player, and is 5.5-MB in size).

April 16, 2005TMS-SD member Gerry Williams was interviewed, along with Sci-Fi authors Ben Bova and Arthur C. Clarke as part of The Norman Bates Memorial Soundtrack program, dealing with the soundtracks for Mars movies on KFJC 89.7 FM from the Foothills Community College campus in San Jose, California. Gerry is the webmaster of the THE MARS MOVIE GUIDE. This program was webcast.

March 23, 2004The Mars Society - San Diego was featured in a news segment in conjunction with NASA's announcement of the Rover Opportunity confirming the past existence of water on Mars on XETV Fox Channel 6 at 10:00pm. (NOTE: requires QuickTime Player, and is 1.6-MB in size).

February 8, 2004DART - San Diego's Model Rocketry Club held a Model and High-Powered Rocket launch at Fiesta Island . TMS-SD members were there for public outreach activities. NBC 7/39 covered the event in their 7:00am Newscast for 8 minutes. (NOTE: requires QuickTime Player, and is 11-MB in size).

January 31, 2004TMS-SD's SAN DIEGO MARS ROVER replica operated outside of the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center from Noon to 3:00pm, in Balboa Park. Four television crews videotaped the event: XETV Fox 6 on the 10pm News; NBC 7/39 in both the 6:00pm and the 11:00pm News; KFMB 8 5:00pm News; and KUSI 9/51 10:00pm News. January 31, 2004TMS-SD's SAN DIEGO MARS ROVER replica operated outside of the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center from Noon to 3:00pm, in Balboa Park. Four television crews videotaped the event -- MEDIA COMING SOON.

January 27, 2004 TMS-SD member Gerry Williams was interviewed about our SAN DIEGO MARS ROVER replica for about 3.5 minutes on the "My Mornings with Jagger and Kristi" show on 94.1 FM.

January 24, 2004Four members of TMS-SD were invited to view the Mars Exploration Rover "Opportunity" landing at Malin Space Science Systems, operators of the Mars Global Surveyor-Mars Orbital Camera, which was being used as a communications relay from the Martian surface. XETV Fox Channel 6 covered the landing on their 11:00pm news.

January 17, 2004TMS-SD members and their radio-controlled Mars Exploration Rover replica were featured on KFMB-TV Local 8 in the 6:00pm News. (NOTE: requires QuickTime Player, and is 2.5-MB in size).

January 16, 2004TMS-SD member Gerry Williams and Michael Ravine (Advanced Projects Manager at Malin Space Science Systems) discussed Martian photography from orbital spacecraft, from the Mars Exploration Rovers, and at the Mars Society's Mars Desert Research Station in Utah on Shutterbug Magazine Radio with wsRadio.com's The Foto Guys, Jack and Howard. September 4, 2003TMS-SD members were featured in "My Grand Kids Went To Mars And All I Got Was A Lousy T-shirt" in the Fahrenheit - San Diego Independent Weekly magazine.

August 27, 2003The The San Diego Astronomy Association (SDAA) hosted a free Mars Opposition Viewing at the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center in Balboa Park. TMS-SD members were there for media and public outreach activitiesfrom 4:30pm to 1:00am. TMS-SD members interviewed by two television stations, KFMB Channel 8 and KUSI Channel 9/51.

August 27, 2003TMS-SD members were featured in "Nearness of Mars has the Heavenly Set Excited" in the North County Times newspaper.

August 27, 2003TMS-SD members were featured in "Allure of the Red Planet Beckons Local Enthusiasts" in the San Diego City Beat magazine.

July 11, 2003In The Spacefaring Web 3.13 article by John Carter McKnight Should America Rule the Heavens? is based upon "Perhaps the best, most thought- provoking question I've been asked in over two years of writing this column came from The Mars Society-San Diego's co-founder, Dave Rankin. Rankin directly challenged one of the fundamental tenets of this column.

June 5, 2003TMS-SD's Dave Rankin was interviewed on THE GLENN MITCHELL SHOW radio program KERA 90.1, Public Broadcasting for North Texas. "The moon. Been there, done that. So when are we going to Mars? ThatŐs what the members of the Mars Society want to know. TheyŐre an international space advocacy organization with members on every continent except Antarctica. Their goal is to further human exploration of the Red Planet, and they have their own plan for manned mission to Mars."

June 1, 2003TMS-SD's Dave Rankin was the special guest on "THE WARP ZONE" radio program regarding The Mars Society, their Analog habitats program, and sending humans to the Red Planet.

April 26, 2003TMS-SD's Dave Rankin was the special guest on Radio Sci Fi on AM 580 WDBO News-Talk Radio in Orlando, Florida.

Spring, 2003 Samsung's DigitALL Magazine covered the Sally Ride Science Festival in Balboa Park last Februay, and their article made mention of the representatives of The Mars Society from the San Diego chapter, who crewed a display table there on February 22, 2003.

February 18, 2003 KPBS-FM's "THESE DAYS" radio program hosted TMS-SD member Shannon Rupert Robles and SDSU Geology Professor Gary Peterson in a discussion of Mars, Mars exploration, and humans to Mars.

February 12, 2003 The Spacefaring Web 3.04 published an article called "A Challenge To Space Leadership" onwww.SpaceDaily.com that mentioned TMS-SD's MDRS as being "...in the midst of a media blitz of unparalleled professionalism, with a positive, inspirational message of ordinary folks taking responsibility for the future and moving into real action."
