State Science Day 2006 was held at Ohio State University on May 6, 2006. Contestants were Science Fair winners in grades 7-12. We provided awards (savings bonds) for "Best project promoting space science, technology or exploration." Thirteen students applied for our award this year (versus six in 2005). Our winners were: FIRST -- Bogna N. Brzezinska, grade 11, "Precipitable water vapor estimation in Antarctica using GPS measurements" Bogna's project has potential application for weather (dust storms) measurements on Mars. SECOND -- John T. Hagen, grade 12, "The Titan Blimp" THIRD (TIE) -- Michael C. O'Donnell, grade 12, "Geotropism: Can plants grow without it?" THIRD (TIE) -- Joel R. Schmitz, grade 8, "Speedy Sunspots" Our judges (left to right): Lyle Kelly, Carlos Glender, Jerry Black, Gary Flood.
