Nutrient Solution Tank |
The water system will actually serve double-duty. Aside from providing a nutrient solution for the plants, the liquid mass will also help stablize the temperature of the unit by providing heat storage. Like any full-sized active solar greenhouse, the water will transfer heat from the hydroponics chamber into the main storage tank below. During the night, the heat will naturally radiate back up into the upper chambers. Additionally, a "heat sink" is incorporated to allow for the venting of excess energy in the event that the temperature increases to levels higher than the established norm. The water itself will make up the bulk of the CEMSS mass, and its position at the bottom of the CEMSS will help stabilize the unit with a low center of gravity. Fresh water for the mouse will be provided via condensation from the HVAC system, (right). For purification, the condensed water will first pass through an Ultraviolet Water Sterilizer, designed for aquarium use. The inclusion of dwarf tomatoes on the menu will hopefully allow for a minimal use of this system, to extend the drinking water filter's life. The pH levels of the water will be monitored and adjusted as needed via fittings embedded in the hydroponic nutrient solution tank, (left). | Condensation Collection |
