Yuri GararinJoin MSOR and Oregon L5 Society Members as we celebrate Yuri's Night. We hope to honor Yuri's memory with fun, food, music and of course, Space Talk! Maybe even a few videos and a glance at Bob McGown's famous meteorite collection. Plus this is a great time to meet the members of both organizations, learn about our projects and events for the coming year, and even how you too can join us! All are welcome to join in the festivities!

Yuri's Night is a non-profit, grassroots celebration taking place worldwide on April 12, 2003. The date marks the anniversary of the flight of the first human in space, Yuri Gagarin, as well as the anniversary of the first Space Shuttle flight. The first Space Shuttle flight was Columbia. In light of the horrible tragedy this February, Yuri's Night Celebration has grown into a celebration of life, the human spirit, and a recognition of the courage of all astronauts everywhere. As symbols of a cultural phenomenon, these events have become icons of a new global society, one in which humanity has gained a greater perspective of its place in the universe and the world it inhabits.

STS-01Today finds our society in a period of technological uncertainty, the future of the space program weighing heavily on everyone's minds. What will you tell future generations about space exploration? Will we turn our backs in the face of adversity and new challenges to overcome? It's up to our generation to decide to press forward, to insure that these lives were not lost for nothing. Overcoming adversity, the nay Sayers, the skeptics and the challenges will be the greatest honor we can give to those that have lost their lives on Columbia. It's up to us to insure that we keep moving forward with better technology, better safety, and better education for future generations. It really is up to us.

Since its inception in 2001, Yuri's Night has been an unprecedented success. In 2002, it was celebrated in over 120 cities on all 7 continents of the Earth, and even in Earth's orbit on the Space Shuttle and the International Space Station. Over 20,000 people directly participate in Yuri's Night events, while total media impressions exceeded 20 million including coverage from CNN, BBC, NBC, MTV and NPR. The Los Angeles flagship event brought over 1700 attendees to the Museum of Flying, in Santa Monica.

Yuri's Night 2003 will be an event of substantially greater scope and public profile. The Los Angeles event will be held at the California Science Center, in Downtown LA at historic Exposition Park. The Park has been used for many large events and concerts but the Science center, a museum devoted to technology and space that includes a new IMAX theater, has never before had an event of this magnitude. Worldwide, we expect over 150 events, and are forging alliances with major media partners to dramatically increase the exposure of the event.

This is a prime opportunity to grant your company global exposure to a young, high-tech generation that is committed to actions that bring about meaningful change on our world community. Enclosed with this letter is a Sponsorship Proposal that will further detail how you can participate in a movement that fundamentally builds public support for the development of space.

From Moscow to Los Angeles, Dar es Salaam to the South Pole, and from Dublin to Bucharest, Yuri's Night has become a global phenomenon. We hope that you will join us to make Yuri's Night 2003 a phenomenal success and that we can count on your support.
