Using Team WSD Lite for Mars Society Chapters
This quick reference covers basic web site maintenance tasks for those
maintaining web sites for Mars Society chapters on the Chapters.MarsSociety.org
web site. These tasks include basic document (HTML files, text files,
images, etc.) functions such as uploading
to the web site, downloading
from the web site and deletion as well
as creation, deletion
and maneuvering through directories.
I assume for this reference that the user is familiar with basic web page
design, knows how to incorporate images into pages and knows how to link
from page to page.
Step 1: Obtain a user name and password
To sign on to WSDLite and begin maintaining you chapter page you must first
obtain a user name and password through your chapter president or webmaster.
If your chapter would like to start a web site, or if your webmaster is
not available to give new accounts, see below.
Once you have this information you can begin creating or maintaining your
site.
Step 2: Sign on
Use your web browser to go to the WSDLite sign on screen at:
http://chapters.marssociety.org/cgi-bin/teamwsdexpress/admin/teamwsd
When you try to access this page you will be prompted to enter your
user name and password. Type in the user name and password that you
were given by your chapter president and hit the "OK" button. If
you are prompted with a box that says "Authorization Failed" then try to
sign on again carefully typing the user name and password you were
given. If you still can't sign on then you will need to contact your
chapter president to make sure that you have the correct account information.
Step 3: Select the data repository (web site) you would like to maintain
Once you make it past the initial authorization you will see a page titled
"User Data Repositories". These are various sites in which you are
authorized to work. Most users will see only their local chapter
site listed, e.g."Michigan Chapter" or "Florida Chapter".
Select the site that you wish to maintain by clicking on it and then
clicking the "Go To Repository" button. You will be prompted once
more to sign in with your user name and password. Use the same user
name and password that you used in step 2.
Step 4: Main Menu Options
At this point you will see the main menu for WSDLite which has a row of
buttons down the left side and information about your current directory
such as documents that reside there and any subdirectories. This
is where you will load your chapter's web pages starting with the initial
page which must be called "index.html" or "index.htm". This
is the file that web browsers will load as the default starting point when
a specific file name is not included in a link.
A brief explanation of the options on the left side of the page follows:
