Shannon gave a successful and well-attended talk at Miramar College on her experiences at the Flashline Mars Arctic Research Station (FMARS) on December 17, 2004.

Also on December 17th, our Mars Movie Night featured the anime, "Armitage: Dual Matrix", along with the first serialized episode of "The Purple Monster Strikes" and a "Duck Dodgers" cartoon.

December 18th was the start of the 4th Season of the Mars Desert Research Station (MDRS) in the Utah desert with Crew 31.

The Mars Exploration Rover "SPIRIT" has spent an entire Earth year on the Red Planet as of January 3rd and is still going strong!

January 5th had us at the San Diego Astronomy Association's "Stars in the Park" telescope event with our display table.

We took our Mars Rover to the San Diego Aerospace Museum's Family Day on January 8th.

On January 9th, MDRS Crew 32 started a 2 week rotation at the Mars Desert Research Station (MDRS).

- UPCOMING TMS-SD EVENTS IN JANUARY -

Our Mars Movie Night on January 21st 2005. The featured movie is the Sci-Fi classic "Conquest of Space", preceded by "Duck Dodgers" and an episode of "The Purple Monster Strikes" serial.

The Energizer Bunny of the Spaceways, the Mars Exploration Rover "OPPORTUNITY" spent an entire Earth year on the Red Planet as of January 24th and keeps on going and going and going ... !

Our next public outreach events will be at "Stars in the Park" on February 2nd.

Our chapter will be at the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center on Saturday, February 12, 2005, from noon to 3 p.m. to support a talk being given on space exploration.

Our chapter's annual banquet will be held on Saturday, February 26, 2005. The venue again will be Killer Pizza From Mars in Oceanside. The banquet will occur in the afternoon.

Nominations for our annual MARTIAN OF THE YEAR are Patrick, Shannon, Jeff and John.

Our chapter was invited back this year to the San Diego Science Educators' Conference. The event will occur on Friday and Saturday, March 12 and 13, 2005.

Our chapter will present panel discussions at this years ConDor XII Sci-Fi Convention. Members will also be available to serve as panelists for other discussions.

Our chapter will give a talk at the Weekend Talk Series at the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center in Balboa Park on Saturday, April 16, 2005. The talk is entitled "Rover's Roadtrip" and will be a travelogue of Spirit's and Opportunity's travels over the surface of the red planet.

- OTHER UPCOMING TMS-SD EVENTS -

The only project with any changes worth reporting involve the purchase of branded denim shirts. We reviewed samples of logo patches and denim material.

- PROJECT STATUS REPORTS -

Mars Society San Diego Rovers: Patrick did some needed maintenance work on the radio-controlled San Diego Mars Society Rover and put it back into good shape.

Mars Society San Diego Mars Suit: The suit was used most recently at the "SALLY RIDE SCIENCE FESTIVAL". We suffered a broken hangar that Tim will fix or replace. Tim will also work on bands to shorten one suit and on building a communications module chest-pack for both.

Public Relations: This is a slow time of the year for PR so nothing was reported.

Display Board: No further work was reported on the second display board.

Website: Patrick took on the task of resolving the recent problem with our domain name URL MarsSanDiego.org.

- MISCELLANEOUS -

We need to sell 4 more copies of William K. Hartmann's "A Traveler's Guide to Mars" to break even -- we'll then have another 12 books we can sell at profit.

Individual members of our chapter have agreed to volunteer as Mission Support for this season's Mars Desert Research Station (MDRS) crews.

Several chapter members will go to the Mars Desert Research Station (MDRS) for a weekend work party in late spring.

After the meeting, Patrick and Dave began putting together the Lego Mars Exploration Rover kit.
